Yolbot is built on a simple principle: your money stays in your bank, and you decide how much data to share. Every debt optimization tool in Yolbot works with manually entered numbers, so linking a bank account is always optional.
When you choose to connect a financial institution through Plaid, access is strictly read-only. We never see or store your bank login credentials, we cannot initiate transfers or move funds, and you can disconnect or permanently delete your data at any time.

During initial setup and on every debts, accounts, and cashflow screen, you can choose manual entry. You get the exact same MILP mathematical payoff plan, strategy comparisons, and monthly payment schedules without ever linking a bank.
100% functional without linking a bank
You never have to link a bank account to use Yolbot. You can type your debts, balances, APRs, minimum payments, accounts, incomes, and budgets by hand. The MILP mathematical solver, Snowball and Avalanche comparisons, and step-by-step payment plans work identically whether your numbers come from manual entry or automatic bank sync.
Read-only bank synchronization via Plaid
If you opt into automatic bank sync, you authenticate directly with your financial institution through Plaid Inc. Yolbot never sees, handles, or stores your bank username or password. Plaid issues a scoped read-only access token that lets Yolbot read balances, liabilities, and transactions. Yolbot cannot move money, initiate ACH debits, open or close accounts, or alter anything at your bank.
Encryption in transit and at rest, plus tenant isolation
All traffic between your browser or mobile device and Yolbot uses TLS 1.3 encryption. Sensitive records and tokens are encrypted at rest with AES-256. Every database query is strictly scoped to your authenticated user identity, and viewing or managing bank connections requires TOTP two-factor authentication (2FA).
Zero data selling or third-party ad targeting
Yolbot is funded by transparent software subscriptions, never by selling, renting, or brokering your financial data to lenders, debt collectors, credit bureaus, or advertising networks. Analytics events are sanitized before transmission so personal and financial identifiers are never leaked.

You stay in full control of your records. Disconnecting a bank on the Bank Sync page immediately revokes our Plaid access token. From Settings, you can delete your Yolbot account with either a 30-day recovery window or immediate OTP-verified permanent deletion across our database, Plaid, and authentication provider.
